Overall, the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 is a great speaker set for those looking for relatively inexpensive and quality computer speakers.

To achieve a clear and detailed sound, each speaker also features precision-engineered crossovers to ensure the sound from the low frequency driver blends with that of the high-frequency driver to produce a smooth transition. These speakers use audiophile-grade Class A/B with amplifier architecture, ferrofluid-cooled and silk dome tweeters, woofers coated with polypropylene, and dense and wooden enclosures to produce a loud, rich, sound, despite its compact size. This technology is trusted by the best in the industry but with a low price point for everyday consumers. The technology used in the AV40 design enables a full-range of sound, from sharp highs to low, bass tones. The M-Audio studio speakers have long been a music industry bestseller. A2+ Premium Powered Desktop Speakers ($249) No, you don't have to spend 1000's as some have said here. A buddy swears I have hidden rear speakers during a Halflife 2 demo in CMSS3D with only two speakers. Most Ole school speakers DON'T need a Sub and can reach down to 20Hz or lower on their own. I'll NEVER go back to monitors or Computer Multimedia speakers of ANY KIND! Old school receiver and speakers can even do virtual surround better with only Two speakers. My computer Room is 12 X 14 and my Logitech 560Z or my Creative Megaworks 650's (or the tested L-5500) NEVER came close to any of the REAL sound systems LOL! I too like the M200's even the rev 1.0 better than the AV-40's LOL!

I used some AV 40's for recording but no way I'm using these for gaming, and I don't use my PC to watch movies, I have a HTPC for that in my Den. The Behringer Truth B2031A's are my only 2.0 setup, and they are also a decent set of speakers, IMHO.Ab-so-frakkin-lutely QFT~!!!!!!!!! but I coupled them with an SVS PB ultra/2 sub. My favorite set of speakers for PC is the Swan M200MkIII's the MKII's are also very decent. I gave them to my wife with a 15" 1000 watt sub, and she thinks that they are ok. could not believe my ears, they were the worst set of speakers that I have heard for years, the highs were ok, but the mids awful, and the lows non-existent, with overall volume just stupidly low. One set of speakers for the same $$ sounds great to one person, and ok to another, and crap to the next. Makes sense now that I am thinking about it haha.

Just plug that into the line input on your sub.Thank you for the info! I knew how to hook up the front and rear but I did not realize the center channel was also for the sub. Then find out which of the two RCA ends is for the sub and which is for the center, I think the red one is sub. To add a sub in, get another 1/8" to RCA cable and plug it in to your center/sub output on the sound card. The speaker cable goes from the left AV40 to the right AV40 speaker. Also you may need speaker cable if the AV40s do not come with any. Do the same thing for your rear speakers, but use the rear L/R output from your sound card instead of the front L/R.

The other end of the RCA cables go into the speakers themselves. Plug the 1/8" end of the cable into the left and right output of your sound card, then plug the RCA cables into the end with the RCAs. If you can only find 18" to RCA cables with male ends then a female to female RCA coupler will be needed as well. Also some RCA cables of whatever length if required for where you want to put your speakers. Preferably with femal RCA ends (cheap pretty much anywhere online, I like ). You get two, stereo 1/8" to dual RCA cables. Just plug that into the line input on your sub. If you can only find 1/8" to RCA cables with male ends then a female to female RCA coupler will be needed as well for each channel. Preferably with female RCA ends (cheap pretty much anywhere online, I like ).
